The architecture of Japanese shrines and temples fascinates me. The structures are elaborate and decorative, incorporate wood carvings, paintings, sculpture, metal reliefs… I usually wish I had someone knowledgeable to explain to me the stories they tell.

As night fell at the Fushimi Inari Taisha, the lights turned on. Instead of removing some of the magic the night brought this holy place, they only added a new layer of it.
